BARBARA

Barbara, we have met before
In some forgotten past life
On some forgotten shore.
Protector and protected
Our roles defined and intertwined
Through passages of place and time.
I, the lion king saw you, the tiny mouse
Pluck the thorn from painful paw
At risk of death by mouth or claw.
Your courage and your bravery
Reigned taller than my stately throne
And so I felt we both had grown.
Blessed by love and Hippocrates
You tended to both friend and foe.
Tired, yes, yet tireless
Your goal was to protect it seems
Through place and time
And through our dreams.

Author’s Note: It has been said that a patient will always fall in love with his nurse. This is about a nurse who cared for me while I was in hospital.
