cut down before you truly tasted life,
for your country and your people
in the spirit world you are watching.

The wind will forever praise your name
and my son from whence you came,
a brown child of Mother Earth
you stood your ground and never ran.

Heart as brave as Eagles beneath Father Sky
you said your prayers,
into the rising sun you faced
never once lost your faith.

Creator shared you with us for a short while
our hearts are forever grateful,
sage burned for cleaning spirits
songs lifted toward your ancestors.

Slowly the drums are beating
your mothers heart is mourning,
in the gifting your kin are joining
giving away in your honor.

This is the way of your peoples to show
respect in a humble way before Creator,
for this you lived and died
proud to walk this path of honor.

My heart joins the songs
my spirit joins the dancing
knowing you are safely guided
by the ancients who wait beyond the smoke of crossing.
