As I sit here the second night awake,
my mind wanders to our children;
my heart it does break…

I can only imagine what they will face,
As they leave for war, to run their race.
We were called on in our day and time,
To lift up freedom but in did not bind.

They will fly across the ocean, sail across the sea…
They will fight for freedom for you and me,
We pray the scars on their heart will not be as bad,
Because of these scars we are all sad.

Our brothers and sisters laying in a pool of blood,
On a foreign soil all covered with mud.
There screams will echo across the long lonely miles.
There pain and suffering will remove our smiles.

As we sit and wonder, wish and pray,
That they will all come home from this, their day.
