WHY CAN’T CANADA BUILD ELECTRIC CARS?

They used Electric Street Cars when I was a kid
Handicapped golfers on their golf carts they rid
Doing 18-hole runs in their electric golf carts
No pollution or fumes and very few moving parts

Old folks drive their rascals on Sidney’s main street
They wave to each other when out making a meet
Using them for shopping and for mailing the post
Staying independent they are happier than most

We could open a factory and hire Canadian Youth
Building our own Canadian Electric two-door Coupes
They use them now on the BC Ferry Baggage run
What’s stopping Canada from also building some?

Are the oil companies able to control this Canadian right?
Is it because of OPEC control that we won’t stand up and fight?
The oil barons drive caddies and they live in high royalty estates
Canadians pay for gas pump pollution to support each oil sheik!

We have the technology and we have had it for years
Lungs choking on gas fumes eyes filled with smog tears
Canadian car companies are controlled through NAFTA I guess?
The American oil companies won’t let us out of this mess?

A way must be cleared because we have the solution!
To clean up Canada’s air and to end gasoline pollution
Let’s build clean air cars we can plug in each night
Let us do it immediately because it’s Canada’s right?

Author’s Note: Or is it? Perhaps it’s a human right to breathe clean air? Or is it? If it is too late for the lung cancer generation, let’s do it for our children and grandchildren!
