THE FAMILY PICTURE
I gaze at our family picture taken at the stone house next door
So many members are not here now, they have gone on before
Gone is the orchard king my father in law Jim
And gone is my Father who stood next to him
Gone is old Grandma Nellie and Sandy and Dan
So young were Mary, Paula, Bridey, Sandra Anne
Lynne looks like our Sandra I still had red hair
Jim was building the addition and the orchards still there
There’s a new family picture with grand kids now nine
With Desmond and Reggie, beautiful Shaylyn’s so fine
There’s William and Gerry and my little friend Joel
And Jackie and Mary Lynne, wee Mally so bold!
Oh I look at that old picture and see my children all still here
And my memories grow fonder with the passing of each year
I am getting much older and my hair’s now snow white
I have lived long and prospered and I fought the good fight!

Author’s Note:
I see there, wee Erin and her little bro Pat
They had a wee dog that looks just like a cat
Both have now grown and they’ve left Saanichton
Each seeking their direction and their place in the sun!
