SUNDAY THOUGHTS
(On Seeing a John-Ward Leighton Work of Art)
an abstract setting
colours aglow
buds forming a hint of spring
the salt and pepper
shakers stand alone on the circle
the city and her beauty
the million stories within
gives a haunting loveliness
to the human eye felt by the soul
John’s heart and skill
showing us the creations
of architects in living colour
their abominations and triumphs
standing still against the
Vancouver inner city skyline
the camera does not lie
as we have done to ourselves
women, money, and success
are fleeting objects obtained
at what personal cost?
in youth we neglected
the peace of present soul
in twilight years,
scenic beauty is gold!
and Starbucks or Tim Hortons
provide the daily needed fix!
