SEPARATIST POET GETS $33K
I just read in de news to-day
Raymond Levesque, he got 33K
For turning down the GG’s cheque
I said to myself, hey, what de heck,
perhaps she could send it to me
to feed the poor and hungry.
Maybe the rich guys of the FLQ
could send me one big cheque or two
to feed the kids we need dat dough
as de separation business it’s now on slow
dey for sure, got a long, long ways to go
before dey pulls de plug, you know?
So how’s about de GG’s cheque pour de poetry,
Could she send it now to me to feed de poor, de hungry?
Perhaps de PM could ask his GG boss
to make dat cheque out to ICROSS?

SPURNING GOVERNOR GENERAL’S AWARD EARNS $18,000 PROFIT
Times Colonist: November 5, 2005
MONTREAL (CP) — Quebec singer-songwriter Raymond Levesque’s decision to turn down a $15,000 Governor General Performing Arts Award has proven to be a smart financial move.
On Friday, Levesque received a cheque for $33,000 from a group of prominent separatists.
After Levesque, 77, announced he would not accept the award, Bloc Quebecois MP Caroline St-Hilaire launched an effort to match the $15,000 that comes with winning a Governor General Performing Arts Award.
Levesque said he could not accept the prize because he was unable to reconcile his separatist beliefs with the federalist nature of the award.
