MY HOME – QUEBEC
The beautiful red leaves of the Gatineau Hills in fall (as depicted on our Canadian flag)
The maple sap vapours boiling in spring in a cauldron covered with a cheese cloth rag
The clean crisp air of la Belle Province sweetly filling the depths of one’s lungs –
These Descendants from Ireland and from France who fought the German Huns
These are the dreams I feel in sleep and for my Martindale Grandpa I still weep
I lived at Lac Meech until I was seven, a good catholic boy on my way to heaven
The skidding horses and the pulp logs – chickens, cattle and our own butchered hogs
That was the way that things were back then – but one can never really go home again
