MALE SUBJECT DOWN

A poor soul lies horizontal sleeping out in the street
Walked around by the tourists he lies there in defeat
John snaps the picture that captures those cold stones
‘Twas booze or drugs that made him lie down his bones

John lives near the DTES[•] where the druggies OD and die
His professional lens captures the where when and why
John he’s a writer, great Canadian Poet and a good man
He captures the DTES homeless, here in this rich land

These humans need a shelter, and a safe place to detox
Now they sleep in the doorways and in a cardboard box
Sirens at night scream loud when these guys OD and die
Reminded by John’s great pictures we have to ask why?

He is also a friend of this writer who has for many years admired this body of work. His daily journal has captured the Jazz Subject Scene and the movers and shakers whose sounds fill the earphones!
