IF WISHES WERE HORSES
If wishes were horses then our beggars would ride
We have no more street horses along the wayside
But our beggars still abide without too much pride!
As they frequent the streets of the lower East Side
The Police Chief says that it costs $2000.00 each day
For the B&E money that the street druggie has to pay
She will get her free needle and a brand new hash pipe
From both Federals and Provincial governments alike!
Their worldly possessions kept in a grocery cart
They sleep on the street or in Stanley Park
Social Assistance gives extra if they have a wee dog
Free hash pipes and needles-another spoke in the cog
The Olympics come to Canada – that’s in twenty ten
Will they move out the street folk’s way prior to then?
New buildings go up to house those that will come
To see how mountainside skiing at Whistler is done!
