A CHRISTMAS ODE TO A HERKY JERKY MAN
I hear the poet’s clickety-click
the hot chocolate makes the keyboard stick
old age has made a shaky twitchy time
and John’s prose poems sometimes rhyme
and sometimes writing from the heart
a pause, cheek lift, a silent fart
a thought of things out in the night
the screaming druggie in a fight
the music on the head ear phones
interrupted by the mean street moans
and in the night the poet writes
about the sirens and the fights
John is an old time writing man
enjoying life as best he can
downtown amidst the ebb and flow
on the mean streets there’s a constant show
so thank you John for telling us
about the constant street side fuss
about those things all going on
whilst listening to the old jazz songs
It’s the time of morn to say so long
the best to you my good friend John
I guess this poem’s at last at an end
Merry Christmas to you – my old Army friend!
