THE PASSING OF MACHINE GUN BILL FISHER

We were doing pack drill out upon the square
You said you didn’t mind being, out there
We slept upon the guardroom floor
But you said it’s better than being at war

You knew how to drive the CSM to distraction
From that you got a lot of personal satisfaction
As a young kid, you were a soldier hero to me
You taught me to smile when we were on C.B.

You survived Hitler and Mr. Sing Man Rhee
You spent your whole life in the Infantry
Your sense of humour was an inspiration to me
No more pack drill now, at last you are free!
