On the 9th of August every year
Peacekeeping day we hold
and longer lists of names are read;
Peacekeepers, brave and bold

The Abels and the Isfelds
tearfully listen to the roll
‘cause they lost sons to mines and guns;
their grief wrenched at my soul.

Ralph’s bugle played a sad last post,
Pipe Major played lament
for all the dead whose names were read
silence – all heads bent.
