It’s August the 9th. It’s that time of year
When we pause for a moment and perhaps shed a tear
For each peacekeeper in a foreign grave
They were Canada’s finest, so young, so brave

Each proudly wore his red or blue beret
And waved goodbye as they flew away
They kept the peace in each troubled place
They died in support of the human race!

Please take a moment and bow your head
In honour of Canada’s peacekeeping dead
See our flag! – It’s edged in bars of red
In memory of those whose blood was shed!

So join with me and let us all pray
For these heroes who served so far away
Let us pray for peace and an end to war
Their names on the wall, live forever more!

Author’s Note: The Wall of Honour is in Calgary and all names of Peacekeepers, Peace support Mission Personnel and Peace Makers who were killed in the quest for global harmony are listed. The names are also listed now in the Canadian Government Peace Tower in Ottawa, in the seventh book of remembrance. May they all rest in peace!

Peace is our hope for mankind! And with the news lately, we are going to have to hope a little harder and pray a little harder as we send more of our young men and women into harm’s way!
