Thomas Melville Leonard
Thomas Melville Leonard
Here is a fond farewell to my good buddy Tom.
I see in today’s paper that Tommy is now gone.
Tom was a founding member of the CPVA:
We worked hard together away back in the day.

Tom served his country in the Egyptian Wars.
Jimmy Jumpers like Tom served more than 1 tour.
He jumped out of airplanes until he retired.
Tom was an old jumper that we all admired.

Retiring, Tom joined the Commissionaire Corps.
No more bullets to dodge in the jeep like before.
Fair winds to you Tommy, soft landing galore:
Now your one of God’s Peacekeepers that we all adore.

Fair thee well Sergeant Tom: keep some chutes packed for us.
We’ll all be there, my friend: yes soon, soon enough.
Put in a good word, for all of us old soldiers still here.
Here’s a toast to you buddy, a cold glass of wets beer.

Passed away March 1, 2011. Tom was born in Snowflake, Manitoba on April 2, 1935. Predeceased by his son, Thomas, as well as his brothers and sisters. Survived by his loving wife, Jo-Ann; daughter, Ashley; son, Michael; sister, Olive, and a host of nieces and nephews. We would like to thank the nurses at the Royal Jubilee Hospital and a loving “Thank You to Dr. Mario Bertoia. Tom was a soldier, willing to lay down his life for his friends.

He could say at the last, like Paul:

“I have fought the good fight.
I have finished the race.
I have kept the faith.”
