FINALLY – THE KOREAN WAR IS BEING RECOGNIZED BY CANADA

Their faces they are wrinkled now but they all stand straight and proud.
Those soldiers who once taught me drill and screamed so very loud.
Their medals make me think again, of Depot, back when they did the job.
They taught me how to prime hand grenades and how to do the lob.

John Carson told me it was the forgotten war – just a police action fight.
But the leaders back in Ottawa, they never did any snatch patrols at night.
They never held a wounded friend who died there in one’s arms.
They never walked in mine fields or any other place of harm.

The year it is now 2013 and Sergeant Carson has gone on before.
He did not know, that they now call it, the bloody Korean War.
It took them until the year 2013, when many old guys like John are not here.
Our Government they now recognize that the price KVA[1] vets paid was dear.

Author’s Note: RIP JOHN CARSON – My old Pl Sgt[2] – and all of you others: Rfn[3] Rat Randle, Rfn Mucker Steele, Staff Sgt Chester Hendricks, RSM[4] Ed Hanson, Airborne RSM Dick Buxton, et al. May you continue to scream eet-tee-wah eet-tee-wah at the devil and his ilk from your positions at the right hand of God in the Army of Heaven where all old Korean War Veterans will continue to Parade for all eternity. God bless you all. You faithfully served His Majesty the King George VI, our Country Canada, and you fought the good fight.

Korean War Veterans Honoured on Korea Day in Ottawa

Korean 60th Anniverasary Commemoration Medal

Most photographers will balk at the suggestion that a picture is worth a thousand words. However, these photographs taken in Ottawa on Sunday, June 23, by Errol McGihon of Ottawa Sun/QMI agency, need no words, at least not for Canada’s Korean War Veterans. They illustrated an article that was written by the Ottawa Sun’s Doug Hempstead about the traditional Korea Day services that are held in Ottawa each year to mark the anniversary of the June 25, 1950 outbreak of the Korean War.

We will let these superb photographs speak for themselves: each has a strong meaning – not a one does not capture emotion.
