How did he arrive here down on these cold mean streets?
He had PTSD and had suffered a long list of defeats?
Was he an old soldier hiding there in the booze?
Clawed back and kicked out did he choose to lose?

They are tearing the DTLES rooming houses down
Making way for Olympic tourists, coming to town
Canada should be really ashamed treating humans like this
Our tourists step in the feces amidst the smell of stale piss

In a Safeway shopping cart he had kept all of his stuff
He slept in cold doorways out there in the rough
A meat wagon arrived. They could not wake him up
Now it’s off to potter’s field because his body had enough

Picked up drunk many times he was never convicted
And he did not pass away until after he was evicted
Canadians are responsible because these are our streets
Harper, Lunn, and Campbell they should soon make a meet?

What is the solution in each municipal jurisdiction?
First find a solution to each skid row housing eviction
Shelters for the homeless has got to be on the table
Enact legislation to remove the feeble and unstable?

  • PTSD: Post Traumatic Stress Disorder – perhaps soldiers easing the pain of reality and dulling the sharp edges of existence and self-medicating on booze?
  • DTLES: Down Town Lower East Side – Vancouver’s Skid Road District now being converted to Yuppie Condos forcing the present residents onto the streets
