A LOOK IN THE MIRROR

Where is that young lad? Oh, wasn’t he just too cute?
With his shiny cap badge and the spit shiny boots.
He went on along, to bigger and better things.
That included engagement and golden wedding rings.

Instead of moving from Army camp to Army camp:
He has nine grandchildren, now calling him gramps.
His hair once curly, t ‘was a bright carrot orange red:
Now a greyish white mop covers his wrinkled old head.

I look in the mirror and the boy soldier is long gone.
The jail guard and comms op are now too a swan song.
Living room’s filled with Izzy Dolls and Boomer caps too.
The old man, in the 3rd world, does save a starving few.

Do-gooder works with a Canadian cross-country crew.
We are feeding the hungry and giving sight too, to a few.
Other old soldiers like Mike Comeau and the MC club CAV.
Are helping this Charity to give the have-nots, some have.

The smooth skinned boy soldier now lives on, inside.
He’s still there in young spirit trapped in this old hide,
with good friends like John Leighton who gives of his all.
And support from the Webmaster, our own Tony Pahl.
