VETERANS DAY, 2005
Veterans all stand proud this year;
We made sacrifices oh so dear.
We acted as our Commander ordered,
Through thick and thin we crossed many borders.
We've faced enemies on many lands, so bold,
Jungles deep; deserts dry; heat so hot; winter so cold.
We share memories fond, horrors so real,
Memories haunt us that we can still feel.
We suffer diseases; life threatening to many,
Physical pain, our VA shuns us, our issues aplenty.
We gather on days such as this Veterans Day;
Will we be honored or set up to stay
Americas shame, baby-killers, to be spit upon;
To be the shunned by Americans, whom we vowed to protect, every one?
Today's service members are mostly perceived heroes
As many Vietnam Veterans we welcomed as zeroes.
Returning to Parades and great honors they're proud,
When we all did the same job, followed orders, some covered in shrouds.
Questions and comments we weren't asked for.
Question an order and a traitor you were adorned.
We did as told, went where sent, fought a war,
Just now is the truth of it coming open to the air.
We've prayed the injustices would have long since been righted;
Instead we find ourselves still fighting-still united.
For Veterans issues for old wars and new,
Today we show American Pride, Duty and Honor
Tomorrow's another day and another dollar.
We are thought of and thanked ONE Special Day per year.
We hold this day closer to our hearts still ravaged with fear.
My question to Americans is ever so clear,
Shouldn't we Honor the Veterans of yesterday, today and tomorrow,
Every day of our lives with their same Pride, Honor and Sorrow?
For no war is pretty or happily served,
But for those who fight them, Honor is Deserved.
Every Day Should Be Veterans Day!
