QUICK THOUGHTS

Some have faced the darkness,
The fear of night,
The cold,
The wet,
The heat,
The sweat,
Of gunfire in all directions.

Who's friend
Who's foe
If they move in
Where do I go?
If they shoot at me
Do I shoot at them?
What if I make a mistake?
What if I kill an innocent?
What if...

I am facing the darkness...
Will I let it consume me?
Do I have a say over it?
I know it's changing me.
What will it be like when I go home?
Will it be the same?
It can't be.
I'm different.

They won't understand.
I don't want to remember.
I don't want to talk about this.
This isn't real.
It's a nightmare.
I can pretend it never happened.

... Can't I?
