HONOR
Here it is 2006:
Unfortunately we are at war
Terrorism hit our shore
They threaten there will be much more
I pray it isn't upon our shores
It hits our hearts to our very cores.
If only they'd realize they will NOT win
For Peace and Goodness conquers sin.
This one tirade that ne'r should have been
Our military men and women
Will fight proudly to protect our children
From the evil that surfaced from deep within
Is there an answer that's near,
One that doesn't mean shedding a tear?
Or realizing our greatest fears?
But ends with the sweet words, "Welcome Home Dear"
It's been just too many years
But we're proud of you for keeping us free.
There are already plans for deployments to last
Through 2008, now ain't that a blast?
Children are born, growing up without fathers
Because they're fighting this war that bears them no Honors.
Everyday people have grown weary and tired
Of hearing all about a war with such jumbled news wire.
Too many men return home as amputees
They are offered assistance, hope, help with monies.
Jobs are leaving at a much faster rate
For foreign soils leaving unemployment, homeless, needing in a majority state.
Those sitting on 'the hill' could care nonetheless of the 'average American' sitting in distress
They've got savings accounts, 401 Ks, pensions, retirement plans, their names do impress.
I'll stay who I am, poor, tired, just be me
I'm nobody special, but I earned the right to be free.
I'm proud of myself, of my father, son, and daughter
Of every man and woman who donned the uniform at times of peace or of slaughter.
Every spouse, child, brother, sister, family member
Through the worry and fear, the love and the longing, has a right to those same honors.
