Diane M. Weller: American Man - American Hero

AMERICAN MAN – AMERICAN HERO

He's an American man
He's an American hero
From the beginning of time
And the skin color of man was red
bow and arrow his weapon and in hand
He's an American man
He's bravely fighting for Freedom

In Civil War times it was Freedom too
Men dressed in red and in blue
North and South we fought our own
Rebel flags still fly showing our stupidity
To wage war in our own communities
He's an American man
He's bravely fighting for Freedom.

Korea, WWI, WWII, Persian Gulf, Vietnam, OIF, OEF
Fights for Freedom one and all
Death tolls high and ever climbing
Wounded higher, lives changed forever
Bring back flower power!
He's an American man
He's bravely fighting for Freedom.

The War on Terror, IS THERE AN END?
Not to that war. When one terrorist dies
There are many more to take his place.
Whose fight for freedom is this now?
American's... Iraqi's... the World's people's...
He's an American man
He's bravely fighting for Freedom.

or is he?

In this poem, the terms "he", "his", "man", and "men" are respectfully used as a collective and interchangeable term for both male and female heroes and heroines of our armed services.
