NO VIRGINIA, IRAQ IS NOT ANOTHER VIET-NAM!
Be you conservative, liberal, independent or anywhere in between… there is finally one thing every American overwhelmingly agrees with. Whatever is taking place or is about to happen, this will not be another Viet-Nam for our troops.
The utter inhumanity of fellow citizens who were on both sides of that action – whether you deem it right or wrong – has left scar tissue, that even a long black wall in the nation’s capitol, will never fully erase.
We can argue and raise our voices in protest against any action, anytime, anywhere. Protest or support our positions for or against any declaring of war. But the one overwhelming lesson learned, the very hard way, from the Vietnam experience is:
We cannot let our Military down! We command them to action, we expect
them to do the very best, to make us all proud and bear our colors well. We ask sacrifices of them we ourselves can’t make.
No matter any personal stance on the Iraqi situation, the world view, the global and home protests… it is not against our Coalition fighting men and women worldwide. We support, applaud, pray and will be here to not only send you off… but to welcome you home with open arms.
So, No Virginia, we’ve learned a very hard lesson through the lives of those before us… we will never again harbor any malice of thought or deed against any military person for doing what we’ve asked them to do – for all of us who can’t.
