LAUREL

Laurel had chestnut hair
And a band around her head
Had a booth at the county fair
She made and sold fry bread

Fry bread with butter and honey
Fry bread with cinnamon too
They weren’t that much money
Get one for the price of two

Her boyfriend sold turquoise rings
And turquoise bolo ties
And other southwestern things
Under cloudless southwester skies

They traveled the great southwest
Working summer fairs when they could
They did their level best
And worked longer than they should

The sixty’s came and went
And the seventy’s went by too
The eighty’s were heaven sent
They only worked from eight till two
