GRANNY’S DRUM

Tsalagi (Cherokee) DrumsGranny’s drum has magic
I borrowed it one day
It keeps Creator’s logic
And the first people’s way
I listened for the story
And the wisdom held within
Granny eased the worry
And let the drum begin
The drum pounded out a warning
A warning of things to come
Its rhythm kept spirits soaring
As ancestor’s songs were sung
I listened to the ancestor’s songs
And to the rhythm of the drum
In a moment I knew right and wrong
And gained deep wisdom from the drum
The drum went on for hours
My thoughts could not keep pace
But I knew the story was ours
The story of the human race
