Perfumed letters followed me
To a country far away
They traveled across the sea
Each and every day

The words you wrote so lovingly
From a world so different now
You waited, oh so willingly
Without knowing why or how

You wrote letters faithfully
Waiting for my trip home
Then I told you painfully
I needed to be alone

I wasn’t the same boy you knew
I had hardened and hated in war
You had no choice in what to do
We would part forever more

The pain was never left behind
No way for you to understand
A young man’s war torn mind
Home from a war ravaged land
