SILENT SOLDIERS
They went by choice
they went out of love
mothers, grandmothers, wives, girlfriends, sisters, aunts
they held the hand of the dying boys
so they wouldn’t be alone
they sang, danced, flirted
to bring a smile to war weary faces
nothing was too hard
nothing was too dangerous
they went by choice
they went out of love
they were the silent soldiers of Vietnam.
