A WIND OF MEMORIES

In my dreams I walk the path up the hill
Where a mother and child lie

It’s the same hill where thirty years ago I sat and watched them die

The wind blows softly through the canyons of my mind
And on that wind are sights and sounds I cannot leave behind

On the wind comes the gut retching sound
Of a VC smashing a baby’s head into the ground

I still feel today the rage I felt then when to my team I did tell
I’M SENDING THAT BASTARD STRAIGHT TO HELL!

I centered the cross hairs on his still smiling ugly face
Squeezed the round off and terminated him
From the so called Human Race

Sadly, before my round reached his head
Both mother and child lay dead

In my dreams I walk the path that leads up the hill
Where mother and child lie

It’s the same hill where for thirty years in my dreams I sit and cry

Author’s Note: Of all the memories I carry in my heart and mind from Nam, this is the most horrific. Perhaps now that I have been able to bring it in to the light the Creator will help me heal the scars it left on my heart.
