THE PRAYER FOR LIFE

Lord, protect me
From the truly disabled
Disabled by their own wills
Veterans of ignorance
With all sorts of disabilities

They have eyes that will not see
Do not wish to see
[Don’t show that to me,
Just a dark part of history,
It does not matter, you see]

Two ears on a head full of empty
Ears that do not hear
Do not wish to know
[Don’t tell me tales of another’s woe]

Hearts that do not care
Hearts that do not care to care
[It does not touch me]
Minds that refuse to know
[There’s nothing I owe]

Lord, protect me…
Do not let them
Shatter my shield of glass
As through my life
The uncaring pass
