CAROLINA GARDEN

Faye Sizemore: Carolina Garden
Carolina Garden
Butterflies dip
Humming birds in flight
The roses sway
In the evening light
The Crepe Myrtles
That I planted upon my knees
Have finally become trees

Honeysuckle perfumes
Flown in on the breeze
The Cardinals perch
Brightest red
in the Tulip Poplar trees
Among the water lily like flowers
Awakened by the spring showers

Yellow Bell is flourishing
With a golden blush
Next to the Butterfly Bush
That the earth is nourishing
Snow On The Mountain
Now grows on the patio
Beside the fountain

The Sweet William nods
Awaiting the dew
Near to where
The Oxalis grew
Rose of Sharon bushes above
Soon to be scented with blooms
That I always love

Mourning Doves pause
In their flight
Surveying my world
Rabbit and Squirrel
Prepare for the night
And the Whippoorwills
Call that all is right

Tired now
Here
I stand
Foolish old woman
With calloused hand
Tried to make an Eden
Out of red clay land
