YELLOWED LACE AND OLD WAR

Old handmade lace… yellowed with age
… found in a musty old trunk
… wrapping gently… an old tin-type picture
of a soldier with a drooping mustache
His eyes looked so glazed and tired
The tin picture is faded with age…
My great-uncle… he was…
stashed away here because he was dear
and I wonder… did he ever make it home…
or was he buried in a strange place alone
I should have asked questions…
while there were those who could give answers
Now my only answers… are recorded in the history
of old files… and coldly stored archives…
They… hopefully… can solve this mystery
and give remembrance to the fate… with luck…
of the life of soldier whose picture
laid lace wrapped… in this musty old trunk…
