WE ARE NOT CAIN

Did you ever lay on a mattress of stone
… underneath a cardboard dome
… falling asleep with memories of home?

Did you ever lay your head at night
… down beneath the street light
with the thousands in this plight?

Cold… and chilled to the bone
beneath the street light that shone
… just lying there all alone

listening as footsteps passed by
… and did you wonder why
that they heard not your cry

Still they cry…
and no cries are heard
not one word… why…

… WE ARE NOT CAIN…
