WAITING TIME

Counting
falling
grains of sand
Watching
each one land

Sands
in an hour glass…
counting time
as it does pass
Coming from the same
sands as on the shore…
filtering slowly
and steadily
… forevermore
the very same pace
in peace as in war

I have watched
from my shore
… here feeling so lowly
and I know that a soldier’s time
must have seemed to pass
much more slowly –
but never as slow as was mine
