UP FRONT AND REAL

A Vietnam veteran’s past is never far
It is in his memory like a living scar
Vietnam was a lifetime away
… an era in a lost yesterday
Memories… drifting out and in…
paging time on the wings of wind
He remembers the good times and the bad…
times that make him laugh and times that make him sad
And in memories more vivid than all the others…
He remembers the ones who became his brothers
Their memories will never drift away
for to him… ‘twas only yesterday
… ‘twas only yesterday…

Author’s Note: I asked Grant if he had come across a waterfall in Vietnam and… Oh, Boy!!

He said, “Yeah, water fell on me almost the whole time I was there! Believe me I saw lots of water fall…!”… Then he proceeded to tell me monsoon stories, wash outs, valleys becoming rivers, wet gear, soldiers being washed away…

I realized when he calls these memories up, they are more vivid to him than whatever happened this morning…
