STILL HIGHLY DECORATED

no medals are seen
displayed upon your chest
although I know
you were one of the best
I know you were one
who could hear when duty calls
I see not one medal
displayed upon your walls
I know they are kept
out of sight…
taken out sometimes
in dark of night…
as memories…
in the dark and light
… not to be shown
to braggers
or those
who tell lies
Still… looking close…
I can see
your medals
… carved as scars
upon the halls
inside your eyes…
