PASSING BY BABYLON

The path to peace
remains unpaved
Strewn with the litter
of the unsaved
Gathered and discarded
by they who denied sin
We can walk only by faith…
our armor within
From their very mouths
issues public chloroform
Unheeding of the soldier
in the bleeding uniform
Though a granite finger
still points skyward
and the silver dome
rests askew and awkward
Once in glory… it did stand
Most respected in the land
Now a soiled Empire…
A faithless tarnished city…
To be shunned
And passed by in pity
Flaunting
as a cheap temptress
Becoming forlorn
and roofless
Divest
of creature and kin
We continue
in our journey
Burdened
with our own enemy
Walking by faith…
our armor within…
Searching…
for a spot
to begin again…
