IN LEAGUE WITH SHERMAN’S MEN

Let me tell you how the war was won
Countless thousands of Georgia’s sons
before Sherman’s March was done
fell in line behind the Union troops
on their march to the eastern seas
Three thousand freed slaves joined up too

… to bring the reeling South to its knees…

And some… it is true…
soldiers of the Confederate Army deserted…
changing their uniform for one of blue
They knew it was a sin to defend
the shameful ten percent… only ten percent…
of the South who thought men should not be free

In the name of freedom… they burned their way to the sea…

The blazing of Atlanta is now history…
written on old and yellowed pages
A stirring of the ashes rebirths smoke
and gives us still the feeling of hope
A man’s soul is not for hire…
nor his body to be owned…

truths rising like a phoenix from the fire…
