DOGWOOD GLORY

To the top of the rise
We walked this morning
My little dog and me
Just after dawning
Went as far as the red oak tree
Mist was still floating round
I wish you could see what I did see
As we headed back down
A dogwood tree in my view
Seen through blossoms of white
Our flag of red, white, and blue
Call me sentimental if you will
But that colorful sight
Really gave me a thrill
And seeing it I knew
Blue is for our soldiers true
Who spilled Red blood
In some days not so old
White is for God’s blessing
Bestowed upon their soul
