DEAR JOHN

The heart I broke haunts me every day
for I know it was true
I found a husband while you were away
I wish it could have been you
for the one I found proved to be untrue
I saw you the other day
and you turned your head away
to a smiling love by your side
who was still treated as a bride
If only back then I had had enough patience
I wouldn’t have this still upon my conscience
and if my impatient heart my time did bide…
it would be me walking by your side
