A MOTHER'S PRAYER

My sweet babe
has grown so fast
My little boy stands
a man... at last
The protection mother
can give has gone past
I look and I can see
how much he means to me
My son is a soldier
brave and strong
I have been proud
of him all along
I know these feelings
of despair are wrong
so God in your Heaven
make me... his mother
... brave and strong
Until he is safe
where he does belong
I am only his mother
... here below
I know my son
decided to go
With his brothers
... just so
Dear God... keep him
from all harms
until he is safe
inside my arms
