I SHALL PRAY
Our soldiers never hesitate
To report when duty calls
Highest honor they all rate
Fighting for us one and all
I believe this war to be unjust
You may not feel the same
Our leader says it is a must
Our troops are not to blame
Today so many soldiers died
While some prisoners of war
While at home families cried
For a loved one they adored
Freedom of speech is my right
This is what democracy means
Free to protest without a fight
How this issue to us all is seen
Then sometimes we lose sight
As our views we demonstrate
When a protest turns to a fight
Then this nation we’ll degrade
It can be noble to demonstrate
If we all stand up for our cause
But when a protest turns to hate
We must take the time to pause
We all watched on our screens
When many stood up to protest
Then our cause they demeaned
Neither side portrayed their best
Today the tables have all turned
Many soldiers are in harms way
I now ask God for a safe return
Instead of protesting I shall pray
