I turned and glanced
at the “faux-gold” clock
beside my bed

I listened to the quiet
and the seconds ticking
Time was escaping
with the dreams
I dread ~

Took a deep breath
and nestled deeper
into the quilts and
closer to each dog;

Three hearts beating
one clock ticking
and the window is misted
with cold mountain fog.
