THE MEDAL

Oh, I have earned a lovely medal
and a ribbon, the color of flesh;
and though my battle’s long over,
my memories are fresh.

The angry wounds you think
that you would easily see,
are missing, and invisible;
there are none on me………

My wounds are all internal,
my heart is shredded and sore –
My battle medal is called the “Scar”
and I earned it by going to war.
