They sent a cub reporter
to do the interview

She asked a question,
maybe two

His eyes took on a haunted look
As he began to fight anew:

His chin began to quiver,
He ran his hand
through hair, quite sparse, and white

and finished with a simple
sentence

“That was quite a sight.”

She asked:
When did you last dream of that?

“Last night.”

Peter Casserly, Australia’s last survivor of the Western Front in World War I, died yesterday (June 24, 2005). Aged 107, he was also believed to be the oldest Australian male.
