SORE SUBJECT

“The Accolade” by E.B. Leighton, 1901War
as poetry
is a sore subject,
I suppose…
I am not
thrilled with war
myself,
God knows…
But it seems
to be a fact of life ~
it keeps showing up,
causing stress and
strife.
If there were
no wars
and no wounded
I could just
write about
butterflies
and frozen
winter streams.
Alas,
real life’s not like
that…
except in
dreams.
