Silver’s my color
Sparkling in starlight;
Snow falls and sleigh bells
I’m a silver girl, all right

Packing up boxes
with cards and candy canes
mailing them to APO AEs,
leaving behind just remains

of glitter and crumbs ~
ribbons, one forlorn bow
and bright wrapping paper,
packing for soldiers I do not know.

Off to the post office
for the mailing of these
and then, at night,
down on my knees

I give thanks for my freedom
and for those who are fighting
leaving behind sad families
to do the Christmas tree lighting.

Silver girls and sleigh bells,
cards addressed “APO AE”
God Bless all our soldiers,
Merry Christmas, from me.
