The act of killing

To choose to kill
and thus, perhaps
to keep ourselves
alive,

God willing.

Requiescat.

Your enemy found that
chink in your mail

you learned you were human
when you desperately fought,
all to no avail.

You can rest now,
with your armor intact,
polished to perfection,
and your sword at your side

your beloved hound standing near
his eyes full of affection

and your mother in mourning
now that you have died.
