Christina A. Sharik

I write these poems because they were
my friends, and could have been my brothers
I could have been the ‘nam nurse or the dollie
you could have been their fathers or their mothers.
People say it’s over now –
it’s been over 30 years.
I’m aware of the passage of time
and the duration of War’s tears.
War never ends.
Ask the Veteran’s children
ask his wife, his friends…
I cry when I hear their dreams
I write when I share their sorrow…
I wrote this poem today
I’ll write another tomorrow.
Remember our brave men and women –
remember the Past,
and never forget that
Peace doesn’t last.
