OUR LIFE, MY MEMORIES
Young and brave strong and true
I felt I could always count on you
Then I grew afraid, marriage was forever
I gave you back your ring and I hope I never
See the hurt yet brave look in your eyes
You said, “don’t cry, can’t help it if you don’t love this guy”
Right then I knew I could trust you with my heart
As time went on I couldn’t imagine us apart
Newlyweds out for a day at the lake
A stroll in shallow water we just had to take
A drop off, I panicked and started clawing for a grip
You went under water and pushed me up just a bit
So protective of your young wife
Right then I knew I could trust you with my life
Mouthy boys, foul language
You stepped in and said, “not in front of a lady”
Five against one, I thought you were dead
After awhile, to my great relief instead
Words of persuasion, apologies from all
And in my eyes you were ten feet tall
Along came babies, one, two, three, four
Who could ask for anything more
You worked so hard to care for all our needs
A full time job, school and books to read
You worked and studied late into the night
A soft touch as you pass, everything will be alright.
I’m proud of the man you are and the one you strive to be
I want your future to always include me
More than 40 years of seeing you struggle
There is new pride and trust growing inside
The love I feel for you, that I can’t hide
My heart belongs to you in our golden years
Let’s fill what is left with laughter and never tears.
