Patricia Schmidt

Patti’s husband is a Vietnam Veteran who suffers from chronic PTSD and they have been married for almost 42 years, a real roller coaster ride much of the time, but together have raised four children who are healthy and contributing members in the communities where they live. The author of many journals and poems over the years, Patti declares writing to be the one trust-worthy outlet. She writes: “Life can run so smoothly one day and then the next it seems to just reel out of control. There was a time when I thought I couldn’t endure another day of the emotional pain. Then I would think about the children and wonder how they could ever deal with life without me. I have been the buffer, go between for much of their dealings with their father, and so I would brace myself to face another day. I have always believed that emotional pain is more severe than physical pain, you might not see the scars but the pain lasts much longer.”
